Stanford Radiology Learning Center

2004/2005

When the Radiology department wanted a technology design/build team for their new learning center, they chose David Carroll Associates, based on our existing quality work on campus, and the strength of our team.

The Radiology Learning Center (RLC) at the Lucas Center for Imaging at Stanford University was designed and built by DCA under a single, two phase contract. The Radiology department expressed a desire for an advanced facility for education, meetings, and outreach. High-resolution, multiple displays were required for accurate display of Radiological images. A main screen with dual SXGA+ projectors makes a single, large video display area along the long wall. Flexible seating was planned to allow for larger groups to orient toward the side wall, where an electrically retractable screen and 3rd projector are located.

The technology program had not been completed before the Lucas Center was finished. Hence part of DCA's work was to remodel the room, which consisted of new electrical, lighting, blackout shades, and structural supports for the AV equipment.

Technology at the RLC includes:

·         Main Screen 2800x1050 with Vista Spyder video processor allowing up to six images on screen

·         Side Screen 1400x1050

·         5 workgroups with dedicated PCs, wireless keyboard, mouse, and 50” plasma (two fixed, three mobile)

·         Full AV routing system to allow any PC to display anywhere

·         Student Response polling system

·         Wolfvision 3-CCD Ceiling mounted document camera

·         Polyvision TS interactive whiteboard

·         30” Apple Cinema Display for instructor, with custom windowing system to display Main and Side screen simultaneously.

·         AMX control system with Touch Screen on podium, and remote control from laptops

·         Videoconferencing capability

·         New Blackout curtains for light court window wall.

·         Custom furniture including acoustical enclosures for AV equipment, projectors, and an electrically operated podium

·         Separate Breakout Room functions as a 6th workgroup
